John Spence Storm Cheerleading team was established in October 2015 by Abigail Curry, a Special Support Assistant working at John Spence Community High School. An experienced Cheerleader competing at European and World Championships from 2008-20014, she is now passing on her wisdom to the students at John Spence.
Cheerleading is a competitive activity where clubs and schools go head to head to showcase a 2 minute and 30 second routine. Within the routine they showcase their jumps, stunts, tumbles and pyramids as well as their timing, showmanship and choreography.
In its opening year the club was exclusively for year 7 and 8 girls, the club has twenty regular students attend each week. This is set to change, as of the 2016-2017 academic year the club will be open to KS3 (year 7, 8 and 9) boys and girls.
We look forward to seeing the club grow and what other opportunities it could open up for our students.
I am excited to announce that another member of staff (Miss Wile) will be joining the coaching team in September 2016. This will allow the club to become more inclusive by opening it up to all KS3 pupils boys and girls.
